Understanding the Hyper-Impulsive type of ADHD
May 15, 2024It's not your fault.
I know this because I've seen brain scans of over 100,00 individuals with ADHD, between the ages of 4 and 88. There are indeed 7 types of ADHD and almost all ADHDers have multiple types. To say "one size treatment does not fit all" would be a severe understatement.
Today I wanted to talk about Classic ADHD, the most common type yet most misunderstood. Someone with these characteristics is spontaneous, risky, exciting to be around, drama-seeking, and disorganized. They are often late to gatherings and the first to invite you to watch a scary movie with them. This is because Classic ADHD has low function in the prefrontal cortex, the part of your brain right behind your forehead, and anything that fires immediate dopamine-- fear and excitement-- is going to give them that OOMPH!
One of my besties is addicted to trash reality TV. I support it because I've seen her prefrontal cortex and I would much rather her get her blood flow boost from TV than Adderall.
